Exercise your right to vote, and make every effort to have your voice heard on Tuesday, November 5th, 2024! I cannot express how much LOCAL elections impact everything we do on a daily basis: From taxes and utilities, to government spending of said tax monies and how they are best used to enrich the community - the elected officials for your LOCAL government affect your daily life far more than any other.
Beyond the persons that will be on the printed ballot you will be given to fill out, in reference to the Jarratt Town election? The words "write-in candidates" have been spotted online. One specific post on Facebook has either been altered or deleted, but still shows up on Google search - it states "We have a ballot full of candidates and prospective write in campaigns to make this election year exciting!" (Re: Town of Jarratt, Open Access; obtained using Google search keywords: "Jarratt VA election write-in 2024 Facebook.")
Curiosity bit me, and I asked around - I was granted with two names:
Annie Peavy, and Stephanie Jefferson - both will be write-in candidates for Town Council in the 2024 Town of Jarratt election.
With some research, Annie Peavy was on Town Council previously, from 2014 until the end of the 2020-2022 session. She maintained the position as Chair of the Community Outreach & Facilities committee and became the President of Town Council in 2020 (re: June 30, 2020 minutes, PDF, Town of Jarratt website) - the very first black woman to hold this title in the history of the Town of Jarratt (cite: Multiple sources, personal communication, October 18-27, 2024).
Stephanie Jefferson is a little harder to pin down, and is rather private on Facebook. To date, from the minimal history of the Virginia election website, she has not held a position previously.
Feel free to ask about these two if anyone at the polls is handing out sample ballots - especially if their sample ballot contains one or both of their names!
